Our dedicated staff is comprised of full time, thoroughly trained, sub investigators, clinical research coordinators, research assistants, and recruitment specialists. Headed up by our Medical Director, Dr. Mitchell Efros, AccuMed strives to provide quality, top of the line results while maintaining outstanding patient care.
Mitchell D. Efros, MD
Medical Director & Principal Investigator
Dr. Efros graduated New York Medical College in 1982 with honors and was elected to the Medical Honor Society, Alpha Omega Alpha. Dr. Efros completed his Urology residency at New York Medical College in 1992. He is board certified in Urology, and was inducted as a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons, as well as a member of the American Urologic Society. In 1992 Dr. Efros joined UroCare Associates, a division of Integrated Medical Professionals, where he has a flourishing Urology practice.
He is one of the founding members of Integrated Medical Professionals. Dr. Efros is an attending physician at NYU Langone Hospital Long Island.
Dr. Efros has vast experience in all areas of Urology, such as; erectile dysfunction, incontinence, Kidney stone disease, and prostate disease and enlargement (BPH). He has expertise in minimally invasive procedures for various Urologic conditions. Dr. Efros is well experienced in major Urologic oncologic surgeries for malignancies of the prostate and kidney.
Dr. Efros has been a principal investigator and consultant to clinical trial research in well over 300 clinical trials and is a nationally recognized clinical trials researcher and leader in this field. This experience and exposure affords Dr. Efros the ability to remain on the cutting edge of technology, new medical therapy, and product development, for a multitude of Urologic conditions. As a consequence, many patients have access to novel therapies not yet available elsewhere.

Tammi Ann Allegra, NP
Sub Investigator
Tammi Ann Allegra received a Bachelor of Science degree in nursing from University of Southwestern Louisiana in 1991. She worked a combined ten years as a staff registered nurse and a travel registered nurse on postoperative urology units. She then became a nurse practitioner in 2001 upon receiving a master’s of art degree in nursing from New York University. For the past 20 years, she has been employed by AccuMed Research Associates as a Sub-Investigator and clinical research coordinator on more than 250 clinical trials.

Leanne Cossu, BS, CRC
Director of Clinical Research
Leanne Cossu has been with AccuMed Research Associates since 2002. Leanne graduated with honors from St. John’s University with a Bachelors of Science in Toxicology. She has coordinated over 250 clinical trials with Dr. Mitchell Efros. As Director of Clinical Research she is responsible for the managerial and operational aspects of all clinical trials as well as the management and development of trial site staff. Leanne assists with the development and execution of clinical protocols. Other responsibilities include regulatory document preparation, budget and contract negotiation, staff training, communication with Sponsors, CROs and IRBs, and the development and implementation of recruitment strategies. She has training in Phlebotomy, EKG, electronic data entry, and Good Clinical Practices.

Heather DelMauro, BS, CRC
Clinical Research Coordinator
Heather DelMauro has been with AccuMed Research Associates since 2014. Heather graduated from SUNY Albany with a Bachelors of Science in Human Biology. Heather's responsibilities as a research coordinator include but are not limited to, recruitment of appropriate subjects for ongoing protocols, conducting trial visits as per protocol requirements, screening and enrolling appropriate clinical trial participants, arranging follow-up visits, maintaining and dispensing investigational product, and the accurate completion of computerized databases or case report forms. Heather is trained in Good Clinical Practice and is IATA certified.

Heather Moreno, CRC
Clinical Research Coordinator
Heather Moreno has been with AccuMed Research Associates since 2021. She has 8 years' experience in a clinical setting with proficiency in communication technologies. Heather supports, facilitates, and coordinates the daily clinical trial activities and plays a critical role in the conduct of the trial. She is responsible for conducting trial visits as per protocol requirements, screening and enrolling appropriate clinical trial participants, arranging follow-up visits, maintaining and dispensing investigational product, and the accurate completion of computerized databases or case report forms. Heather is currently pursuing a Bachelors of Arts in Computer Science from SUNY Old Westbury. Heather is trained in Good Clinical Practice and certified in IATA.
